Our Story

The real brands.
Nothing between.

Authentic Asian food brands — imported directly from the original producers, FSSAI certified, delivered pan India to your kitchen. No substitutes. No imitations. Only the real thing.

Who We Are

The House of Umami was built on one belief — India deserves access to authentic Asian food brands, not Indian-manufactured versions of them. Not culinary-grade matcha sold as ceremonial. Not Korean-style paste made without fermentation. The actual brands. The original producers. The taste that cannot be copied. We are the direct line between those kitchens and yours.

Why choose
The House of Umami

04 Reasons

Original Brands

We carry the real brands — not Indian-made copies.

Most stores sell products "inspired by" Japanese or Korean originals — manufactured locally to cut costs, with little connection to what is actually produced in Japan or Korea. We carry none of that. Every product on our shelves is the genuine imported originalS&B Golden Curry from Tokyo, founded 1923. Kewpie Mayonnaise, Japan's original egg-yolk-only recipe. Daesang Gochujang, fermented the traditional Korean way. KYO Matcha, stone-ground in Kyoto's Uji region. Not our versions of these brands. These brands themselves — imported, certified, authentic.

Verified Sourcing

Every import verified, certified, and traceable.

We source exclusively through Oishii Food & Beverage — one of India's most established importers of premium Asian ingredients, with direct producer relationships across Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. Every product is FSSAI certified, fully documented, and traceable back to the original producer. When you order from The House of Umami, you know exactly what it is and precisely where it came from.

Pan India Access

Hard-to-find Asian ingredients, now accessible everywhere.

Ceremonial grade matcha from Uji, Kyoto. Ukemochi Gold Grade sushi nori. Sanuki udon noodles from Kagawa, Japan's canonical udon region. Japanese nitro cold brew. Korean gochujang paste. These exist in Japan and Korea but are nearly impossible to find reliably in India — until now. We deliver pan India in 4 to 7 days, free shipping above ₹499. No city limitation. No boutique markup.

The Right Ingredient

The ingredient decides the dish — before anything else.

The fermentation in real gochujang cannot be rushed. The shade-growing that gives ceremonial matcha its vivid green and calm energy cannot be faked. The egg-yolk-only formula in Kewpie is the entire reason it tastes the way it does. The ingredient you choose is the first and most important decision in every dish. The House of Umami exists to make that decision the easy one — and to make sure the answer is always the real thing.

How We Source

Authentic sourcing is a relationship,
not a transaction.

Brands like S&B, Kewpie, and Daesang protect their international distribution carefully. They do not sell through just any importer. Reaching them requires years of direct relationship-building, deep knowledge of Indian food safety and import regulations, and a sourcing partner those brands themselves trust.

Our sourcing partner is Oishii Food & Beverage — one of India's most respected importers of premium Asian food products, with established relationships across Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. Through Oishii, every product enters India with full FSSAI certification, complete documentation, and verified origin. Nothing is approximated. Nothing is substituted. What arrives in your kitchen is exactly what it says it is.

Authentic taste is not possible with inauthentic ingredients. We built our sourcing around that single fact — and we don't compromise on it.

Ingredient Knowledge

What makes these ingredients different —
and why it matters in your kitchen.

Ceremonial Matcha · Kyoto, Japan

What makes KYO Matcha different from every other matcha in India?

Ceremonial grade matcha is shade-grown and harvested in the first flush of the season only. This shading — 3 to 4 weeks before harvest — forces the plant to produce more chlorophyll and L-theanine, giving matcha its vivid green colour and calm, sustained energy. Most matcha sold in India is culinary grade — bolder, more bitter, designed for baking. KYO Ceremonial Matcha is stone-ground in Uji, Kyoto from first-harvest leaves. One of the only genuine ceremonial grade matcha products available pan India.

Original Japanese Mayo · Est. 1925

Why is the original Kewpie Mayonnaise impossible to replace?

Kewpie uses only egg yolks — not whole eggs — giving it a richer, creamier texture and deeper golden colour. Seasoned with rice vinegar instead of white vinegar, it has a rounder, gently sweet acidity no substitute replicates. Irreplaceable in Japanese potato salad, spicy tuna rolls, okonomiyaki, and as a marinade base. The original Kewpie, not a copy — now available pan India.

Korean Fermented Paste · Daesang

Why is authentic Gochujang more than just chilli paste?

Gochujang is a fermented paste — not a condiment. Made from red chilli, glutinous rice, fermented soybean, and salt, it is aged for months to build its layered sweet-spicy-savoury depth. That fermentation cannot be shortcut. Daesang Gochujang, one of Korea's most established brands, uses the traditional method. Essential for bibimbap, tteokbokki, Korean fried chicken, and grilled meat marinades. Now available pan India.

Japanese Curry · S&B · Est. 1923

Why has Japan trusted S&B Golden Curry for over 100 years?

S&B Foods, founded in Tokyo in 1923, is the definitive name in Japanese curry. Their Golden Curry Roux dissolves into dishes to create a glossy, balanced curry sauce — softer in spice than Indian curry, with a sweeter, more umami-forward depth. This is not a curry inspired by Japan. It is the Japanese curry that Japan itself eats. Mild, medium, and hot — now delivered anywhere in India.
